About G7 Privacy

Page

The first meeting of the G7 Privacy (G7 Data Protection and Privacy Authorities), which took place in the G7 UK in 2021, ushered in a moment of reflection on the protection and free circulation of personal data, an issue is now crucial in every aspect of economic, political and social life.

Priorities

Stakeholder engagement is among the G7 priorities. With this in mind, in order to include different perspectives within the decision-making process, the G7 established the so-called “Engagement Groups”, which brings together the representatives of various sectors of civil society. Each group focuses on a specific topic (e.g. privacy and artificial intelligence), and modelling it on the governmental process, organises its own ad hoc summit at the end of which it delivers a text of recommendations to the G7 Presidency for Leaders.

The G7 Privacy, organised by the Italian Data Protection Authority in Rome from 9 to 11 October 2024, is part of these Summits. Along with the Group of Seven, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) – which reunites the National Data Protection Authorities  belonging to the European Economic Space  – and the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) are also invited to attend.
